What do we offer?

British Sign Language Interpreters. 

Interpreters work between those who are Deaf and use British Sign Language and hearing people who use English.  Their role is critical in ensuring clear communication and understanding between both parties.

Electronic Text Services

Operators providing these services are fluent typists who transcribe the written word for people who are hard of hearing, deafened or prefer to ‘see’ the English they cannot lipread or hear.

There are three types of this service:

Palantypists use a phonetic keyboard which converts into full words and is a service usually provided for courts, conferences, committee meetings and other situations requiring a verbatim account of the proceedings.

Speech to Text Reporters [STTRs] use a conventional keyboard to produce verbatim accounts of meetings, conferences, tribunals and interviews.

Electronic Notetakers use a laptop to provide a summary or précis of the meeting or event.

BSL to written English translations

English is not the first language of the born Deaf person.  Not hearing English makes it challenging too.  As a result, they may prefer to use BSL and have this translated into written English.  Alternatively, they may wish to have their English checked or presented for a particular scenario.

Lip Speakers

Lip Speakers take in the spoken English [usually by many users] and reiterate it silently, changing any words that are difficult to lipread and ensuring the Deafened or hard of hearing person is able to follow proceedings in the best conditions.
